Things You Must Do
-
Scuba Diving: The islands offer the oceanic paradise for Scuba diving experiences, hard to find anywhere else on the planet. Many of the beaches have shallow reefs which are favourable in all sense for the visitors to splash in. Most of the beaches are eco-conscious. Breathe the freshest air amidst the beautiful nature. ScubaLov in Havelock is your in-house dive-shop destination, aimed to fulfil all that you need for an exciting dive.
-
Snorkelling: Rent a pair of fins or get your own to swim along with thousands of fish on various beaches. Believe it or not, it is going to be an experience of a lifetime.
-
Cultural Mingling: If you happen to spot the locals gathered in a group on one of your favourite beaches; do not miss the opportunity to join them. The friendliness and compassion of the inhabitants is what you are going to carry along on your return from Andaman. If you get a chance, be a part of their evening fun that swings every day when the sun is set.
-
Touring: Rent a bike, scooter or a bicycle to roam around within the islands. Trek the paths to experience the less travelled routes. However, do not forget the long ferry rides to take you from one island to the other, which is the specialty of the islands.
Places You Must Visit:
Other than the important landmarks in Port Blair, Neil Island and Havelock Island, there are a few more remarkable spots that you must not forget to visit.
-
Little Andaman: Set around Port Blair, this place was once very popular for surfing. However, it got devastated in 2004 Tsunami disaster. Look around the remains to feel what is still left as an enchantment here.
-
Barren Island: It is unique, as it is the ONLY Island with a volcano in the country.
-
Long Island: Remember to spare a day or two to enjoy the camping here. Bring your own food and necessary amenities though, since the place is relatively deserted to find the shops too frequently.
-
Rutland Island: This place is really pristine with thatched little huts and unpolluted air. It is scarcely populated, although spanned across 274 square kilometres of area.
THE DO NOTS:
-
Do not try Scuba diving when the monsoon is on. This is usually during the months of late May through late July, with the heavy winds and extremely high waves.
-
Do not drink or smoke on the beaches. It is a punishable offense, as well as a hazard to your own personal safety.
-
Absolutely do not indulge in any kind of sports activity after consuming alcohol.
-
Do not litter the islands or beaches while you are there. Most of the islands are eco-friendly and offer a pollution-free paradise for you to feel the best of islands on earth.
